COLLECTIVE HOUSING UNITS - JAURES

COLLECTIVE HOUSING UNITS - JAURES

The particularity of this project stems from the specific nature of its site, which combines a deep block interior with a limited length of the facade on the avenue.

The project is composed of four buildings, one along the avenue and three others positioned along a pedestrian side street leading into the heart of the site.

The building along the avenue is composed of a commercial base and a porch, conceived as an urban hall, surmounted by four residential levels. The arrangement of this facade reinterprets the classical themes of the major urban thoroughfares, articulating a base and a main building with alternating window basements clad in white brick, and wide glazed openings.

The courtyard buildings are characterised by their near-private entrances. The ground-floor levels are directly accessed from the side street and each open-air staircase serves two or three dwellings at most. On the courtyard, a wider range of materials is used, and the architectonic elements are expressed more freely (stairways, roofs, drainpipes, window basements, etc.). The white brick used here on the window basements and gables is complemented by opaque panels of galvanised steel, corrugated aluminium roofing, and hammered glass which nuances the transparency of the glazed sections.
