The location of the public spaces of the Chapelle International district, a stone’s throw away from the bustle of north-east Paris, requires a strong relationship with the inner spaces of each lot. We therefore propose, for each of the programmes, multiple access points, enabling optimal use of the different sides of the block.
living and working in Chapelle International
The project offers a context based around flexibility and scalability of living and working spaces. The structural organisation of the towers is thus based on a supporting core and concrete supporting facades, combined with thick floors without downstand beams, principles which allow for larger spans and fewer supporting points.
The organisation of the project seeks to propose diversified dwellings which draw inspiration from the different contexts offered by the specific location of the site. On the lower floors, the dwellings benefit from a classic distribution system and a number of external spaces constructed outside the footprint of the towers. On the upper floors, the dwellings benefit from better protected external spaces, which serve as more direct extensions of the living spaces.
inventing the everyday
Some of the spaces, extending off from the communal circulations, also serve as entryways, creating a smooth transition between communal circulations, external private spaces and internal private spaces. Similar to Japanese houses where shoes are removed in a dedicated space (the genkan), this entryway also offers a discreet location for various household functions (washing machine, laundry rack, larder, shoe storage, etc.).
a new metropolitan vision
The global materiality of the towers is deliberately unitary, distinguished by its fluted moulding. The vertical design is distinguished by the typological rupture between lower floors (whose regular fenestration echoes the classic Parisian landscape) and upper floors where the diversity of situations and views finds expression more freely in the format and orientation of the windows.
